The Sun Radio Recharge
The Sun Radio Foundation has pledged an initial funding of $20,000 towards the “Sun Radio Recharge” COVID-19 relief program, giving Central Texas Musicians and Community Radio Stations nationwide the opportunity to apply for grants towards paying their electricity bills.
The 501C3 Not for Profit Sun Radio Foundation is now accepting applications for:
- Sun Radio Recharge for Central Texas Musicians: The foundation has allocated initial funding in the amount of $10,000 for one-time gifts of up to $200 each for Local Austin and San Antonio area musicians and crew members who are struggling to pay electric bills.
- Sun Radio Recharge for Community and Non-Commercial Radio Stations Nationwide: The foundation has allocated another $10,000 for one-time gifts of up to $250 each for Community Radio Stations throughout the country currently void of Corporation for Public Broadcasting funding, or tax-payer subsidies.
“Local musicians and the community radio stations who play their music are in trouble,” says Daryl O’Neal, Executive Director and Founder of the Sun Radio Foundation. “Many small, independent community radio stations do not receive any tax-payer funded ‘Public Radio’ stipends through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting; of the $75,000,000 in new COVID relief funding given to the CPB, hundreds of non-commercial community radio stations will not receive a dime.”
O’Neal continues, “In an effort to stay mission facing, and, quite frankly, try and forget our own pain, we decided to try and help. We’re Solar powered. If we can provide a little free sunshine to those who are so talented to make music, and those who are so brave to play it without help from the Government, we’re going to do so. Hopefully the effort will generate new donations, if so, we will extend the program”.

This program is not available to the ownership, management, board members, employees, volunteers, friends or family of any Sun Radio owned radio station, affiliated radio stations, other radio stations, any television station, any print publications, broadcast companies, online publications or any web based/brick and mortar media company or otherwise who derives their income from donations or advertising.
The Sun Radio Foundation is a 501C3 charitable organization for the arts. Decisions will be made based on need first and all decisions are final. Sun Radio reserves the right to discontinue, expand, or change rules at any time and 100% at its discretion.
The definition of gift or grant is not of significance. If necessary, please consult with a tax professional as to the treatment of Free funding as given at the direction of the 501C3 Sun Radio Foundation.
The maximum amount given will be $200.00 per recipient. ONLY 1 application per family (and address tied to an electric bill) will be awarded. AVAILABLE FOR RESIDENTIAL ELECTRIC BILLS ONLY.
